Last Friday, we went to see our friend Tim sing. He’s the singer for a band called Mojo Junky which is based out of the greater Seattle area. After leaving New York, I realized I really miss taking photos of live music. So I was hoping to get a few pictures too.

Afternoon In Seattle

October 27, 2007 at 11:59 pm (Music, Seattle, Washington)

Spanish Guitar Player At Pike Place Market In Seattle, Washington by Andrew Acomb

Saturday, we spent the afternoon in Seattle. After getting off the ferry, we followed 1st Ave to Pike Place Market. We spent a couple of hours checking out many of the booths and shops around the market. We made sure to stop at the Pike Place Fish Market, one of the market’s major attractions, to watch them throw the fish.

There were many street performers singing, playing guitars, or even banging on street drums. They kept the market filled with music.

We then walked up to Westlake Center and took the monorail to the Seattle Center. Here, we went to the butterfly house at the Pacific Science Center. Pretty cool! They had a couple dozen different species of butterflies and many tropical plants I have never seen before in a sealed room. The humidity inside is maintained at around 70% while the temperature is about 80F (27C). We had to be briefed before entering and inspected for butterflies before we left. The butterflies fly all around and will even land on you. I had one land right on my camera. You have to be very careful not to step on any of them as you walk around.

I was going through some photos of a shoot I did with Bourbon Renewal at Congress Park in Saratoga Springs. I forgot I had some great portraits of each member of the band. Here’s George Fletcher looking larger than life. He’s also in The Tequila Mockingbirds with Pete Pashoukos.

Rob Do, Harmonica Master by Andrew Acomb

This photo was taken last weekend at the Caroline Street Arts and Blues Festival in Saratoga Springs. Here’s Rob Do just relaxing listening to some good music. He just got done playing some tunes on his harmonica with Bourbon Renewal at Saratoga City Tavern. During the summer, you might find him playing with Pete and George for a song or two at Doc’s on Blues Monday. Definitely check it out.

Caroline Street Arts and Blues Festival

Bourbon Renewal Live At City Tavern in Saratoga Springs, New York by Andrew Acomb

Yesterday was the Caroline Street Arts and Blues Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York. A number of different blues musicians performed throughout the afternoon at various venues on Caroline Street. We spent most of the event at the Saratoga City Tavern listening to Bourbon Renewal play. They played two sets. Their first was just the band. Their second they were joined by another guitarist and a trombone player. Pretty cool. In between their sets, we sampled some of the chili from the different bars and restaurants that were competing in the chili cook off. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Tequila Mockingbirds New CD

New CD from The Tequila Mockingbirds by Andrew Acomb

The Tequila Mockingbirds, consisting of Pete Pashoukos and George Fletcher, have finished their very first CD. To celebrate, they’re having a CD release party at Thirteen in Saratoga Springs on Friday, December 8th, starting at 6:30 pm. This is where the entire album was recorded. Be sure to purchase a CD and don’t forget to have them autograph it for you. If you can’t make it, look for their CD at all the major retailers and online via iTunes or CD Baby.

I am very happy that they chose to use my photos for the album art. All of them were taken in Saratoga Springs at Thirteen or right outside on Caroline Street. I supplied the photos, and George’s wife did all the graphics. Looks great!

Congress Park, one of the oldest park in New York state, regularly holds free concerts throughout the summer months. Yesterday, “Bourbon Renewal” played in the “World War Memorial Pavilion” at the park. They went on at 7:00 pm and it didn’t take very long before the park was filled with blankets and lawn chairs.
