It took awhile, but the snow finally arrived shortly after Christmas. I found some bird tracks in a frozen bird bath in the backyard.

Jennifer Opening Another Present on Christmas Day by Andrew Acomb

We spent Christmas day at Ray and Diana’s place. Before a fabulous dinner, we watched Ray bring the horses in for the night. For some great pictures of his horses, check out Ray’s Flickr page. After opening the presents, we played a game of Scrabble. On Diana’s second turn, she put down a word worth 76 points! That pretty much sealed the win.

My Mother Checking Out Her New Book on Christmas Eve by Andrew Acomb

It was a very special Christmas this year. This was the first time in a really long time that my sister and I have been together for Christmas.

Everyone made out with some really great presents this year. To name a few, my sister found one of my very first business cards and framed it for me! I will post that one later. She also got a few things for her new place. My mother and Robert gave Jennifer and I a rustic Adirondack lamp. Robert got his Old Farmer’s Almanac, and my mother also got her special almanac.

After a short walk around my mother’s place, Robert fired up the grill. He cooked some venison from one of his deer he got just a few weeks earlier. I loved it. I ate most of Jessica’s and some of Jennifer’s too!

Jessica and Garcia by Andrew Acomb

I spent about 4 or 5 hours at Kinko’s working on a special mug for my sister. I made a collage of over 20 photos from our childhood. I then put this into a mug. I definitely have to post some of those old photos!

Jennifer and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area by Andrew Acomb

I got a few requests to post this photo. Here is Jennifer jumping over the dunes at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Sometimes you can find a good dune where you can fall over 20 feet! Landing in the sand is like landing on a bed of pillows.

Angel’s Share Sampling Society

December 7, 2006 at 10:03 pm (Events, New York, Saratoga)

Angel's Share Sampling Society at 9 Maple Ave by Andrew Acomb

I spent yesterday evening at 9 Maple Ave for another great Angel’s Share Sampling Society get together. Music from John Coltrane created a great backdrop for a delicious selection of drinks.

First to be served was the Irish Whiskey called Michael Collins Blended Whiskey. It was developed by Sidney Frank in partnership with the Cooley Distillery. It was named after the legendary Irish hero Michael Collins who was also affectionately known as “The Big Fellow”. Collins was the spearhead of Ireland’s struggle for independence and the architect of the treaty signed in 1921 called the Anglo-Irish Treaty.

Ardbeg 10 Year Old, a Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Islay region was next. It’s from the Ardbeg Distillery located in Port Ellen, a small town in Argyll, Scotland. Jackson rated this an 85. Typically, most whiskies are chill filtered but this one is not. This is why it maintains its strength, body, and flavor.

Up next was the Bourbon Whiskey from the Buffalo Trace Distillery called Rock Hill Farms Single Cask Bourbon. This has been called the “World’s Greatest Bourbon” by the Washingtonian Magazine. It has also won numerous awards including Gold at the 1999 International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Finally for the drink demonstration, they showed everyone how to make a Scotch Sangaree. It is a combination of blended Scotch, Port and Drambuie, then stirred and strained straight up in a chilled Martini glass. Tasty.
